CRYSTAL QUEST® Quick FAQ's about Smart & Eagle Systems
What is the difference between a balanced pH and enhanced pH?
The pH of pure or balanced water is very close to 7. Acidic water has a pH less than 7 and is typically corrosive and tasteless while bases or alkaline has a pH greater than 7 if often hard and contains ions that can form scale deposits and contribute to alkali taste. Because it has a pH of 7, water is considered to be neutral. It is neither an acidic nor a base, but is the reference point for acidic and bases.
What is the difference between SMART & EAGLE water?
Smart series filters offer well filtered pH balanced water while the Eagle series offers the filtration with alkalinity and other water enhancement properties.
What is a water softener?
Hard water contains dissolved minerals. A water softener is a compound that lowers the hardness of water by ion exchange to precipitate out hard mineral ions from the water. It requires salt or potassium chloride to regenerate the media.
What is De-Scaling (also known as Saltless Conditioning)?
A saltless water conditioner is an alternative for those who need water treatment but prefer to avoid using salt. This unit changes the structure of the minerals in water so they don't form scale; however, they do not remove hardness minerals or soften water.
What is the difference between softener and saltless conditioning?
A softener precipitates the hard ions and replaces them with softer sodium or potassium ions. These ions are actually removed from the water and will prevent further lime scale build up in your appliances and pipes. Unlike the traditional softener, the salt free conditioner does not remove the hard minerals but changes them in such a way that it does not leave lime scale and becomes harmless to pipes and appliances.
What is ultrafiltration?
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a pressure-driven barrier to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxins and other pathogens to produce water with very high purity and low silt density.
What if I want an Eagle series with water softener? Or what if I want a Smart series with de-scaling?
We do custom orders! We offer many standard water filtration options as well as custom units for clients that may require this. Feel free to speak with a Crystal Quest® water specialists to discuss your water filtration needs and interest further.
What about whole house reverse osmosis (RO) options?
Reverse osmosis water filtering systems offer much in terms of excellent filtration. The filtered water will be stripped of most everything therefore if is to be used as drinking water or it the pipes within a home are copper or metal then remineralization should be considered. If water is to be implemented with technical manufacturing or other uses of this nature the resulting filtered water may be preferred.
What is a POU (point of use) and POE (point of entry) system?
POU or point of use systems are installed at the exiting point of the water within the home, kitchen faucet for example. POE, point of entry is a unit that is installed before a hot water heater and provided filtered water for the entire structure.
What is GPM or gallon per minute and psi?
The GPM refers to the waters flow rate. It is important to install a system that coincides with the water flow to be filtered. Contact time with the water and media provides the filtration therefor a properly sized unit is important in order to provide the best filtration. GPM is different than psi which is the waters pressure. For most of our water filtration systems the recommended psi is 40-60.
